Hey, I'm Lia!

CEO of Dahlia, perpetual entreprenur and mom of three. In 2020, I was in the throes of new motherhood, postpartum depression and a global pandemic. I started recording the little things that my son, my husband and I did to fill our days. Things that brought us joy or made me feel productive. The funny things my son said. I bought a handheld photo printer and added pictures as the days went on. What I didn't realize was that at the end of the year, the memories that filled those pages and the accidental keepsake I had created, would be one of my most precious possessions. I've been doing it every since.

The idea...

What I knew was that I could manage and liked this form of memory keeping because it was quick, simple and easy. I could do it in bed before I went to sleep, and I kept my journal and pen in my nightstand. Being an exhausted mom, I forgot things all the time. A quick jot everyday was the perfect way to record small but special memories like the day that my son first said "I love you, Mama" or milestones like when he took his first steps or had his first birthday party.

The design...

When I started to think about the ideal journal to keep these daily memories, I knew I wanted it to have a scrapbook-style layout. I loved being creative and crafty, but there was no time for that with a small baby to care for. A journal layout that let me quickly jot memories and add photos in a creative and inspired way was perfect.

The keepsake capsule...

After adding twins to our family and continuing my daily memory keeping practice, I found that I also had a pile of kids' artwork, sports badges, report cards, and things, like snippets from their first haircut sitting in my drawer. I knew that the perfect companion to the journal was a box with accessories to store these special items.

The start of Dahlia...

In 2024, I decided to put all of my ideas together and design the all-in-one journal and box that I needed for daily memory keeping - this is now the Journal Capsule. I knew that the simple yet inspired way the journal was designed and the organization that the box provided could be useful to other parents. I started Dahlia to share the journal capsules with you. I hope you love them as much as I do.

The meaning of "Dahlia"

My sister, Anita, suggested the name Dahlia as a play on the word "daily", since that was the type of memory keeping I was doing. Then, I did some research and discovered that dahlias represent enduring kindness and grace, even when things are hard, commitment to what is good, and everlasting love and kindness. Pink dahlias are often associated with motherly love. With that being said, there was no doubt that Dahlia was absolutely the perfect name for my business. It's a name that represents what it means to be a parent. In the journal capsule, we hope you find an easy yet inspired way to record and collect the memories that fill your family's life. It's a keepsake for your children in their parent's handwriting, a beautiful and sentimental love letter to them 🤍
